Anything Monthly Workshop (아무거나 월간공방, AMW), also known as Monthly Workshop (월간공방, MW) is a kind of magazine in JWIKI that covers various worldbuilding contents, including the interview and others. It is currently published irregularly through Justboard. According to the original page, their purpose is that it aims to post regularly and exceed 10,000 views. But it's crucial to note this can be different from any monthly magazine. They publish one of these irregularly (formerly every Saturday) and put them together as official every last week of the month.

AMW is part of Ernst's Anyway Workshop (에른스트의 아무튼 공방), a recognized group from JWIKI, and operated by some author which has affiliated with EAW. It was discussed at the end of 2021 in the meeting, but it never happened until the next year. In September 2022, the plan was revealed specifically to release, and then it concluded in October.

Anything Monthly Workshop recognises JWIKI as a worldbuilding community. Therefore, we are willing to interview everything that has to do with this as well as content inside the site. You can also give us information related to worldbuilding. Thank you for reading this!

About

JWIKI, the foundation of creation built up by dreamer
꿈꾸는 분들이 쌓아올린 창작의 재단

JWIKI (제이위키) is Japan-based Korean language worldbuilding wiki which started on August 1, 2016, powered by the open-source wiki software MediaWiki. That name is the acronym of Just Wiki. As of June 2023, it had more than 70,000 articles (including redirects), making it the twelfth-largest Korean-language wiki. In December 14, 2022, they move the server to Tokyo, Japan, to guarantee freedom of creation against secret law of Nth Room, in which one can be restricted from worldbuilding and writing stories.

Mainly, it focuses on worldbuilding regardless of genres such as alternate history, fantasy or science fiction, also the documents with practical use (실용 문서) based on facts exist. So, JWIKI can write worldbuilding stories freely only within the limit.

History

JWIKI was founded in August 1, 2016 as a personal site by Monitoring (모니터링), later it became the smallest group site by recommendation to his acquaintance. But the database was attacked during the ransomware attack in June 2017, and they gave up the database from the wiki hosting site Internet Nayana (인터넷나야나). After that, JWIKI was relaunched in August 7th, and expanded into "alternate history, creation, and the setup" at the same time.

In January 2018, Liban (리반) was elected the administrator by popular vote (민선관리자). In October, they proceed the improvement of design and the system in spite of Agnarrsdottier's draft.

In November 7, 2019, Ernst's Anyway Workshop (에른스트의 아무튼 공방) was founded as the first user group in JWIKI. As of 2023, EAW is still active as the "recognized group".

In June 1, 2020, JWIKI is attacked again by DDoS, the database gets incapacitated and main entrance is inaccessible. The database are restored after the vandalism, many users have been inconvenienced by the activity.

In 2021, JWIKI commemorated 5th anniversary, and Ernst elected the administrator by popular vote (민선관리자) after 3 years. And then, JWIKI is starting to grow up faster during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, the user community Justboard (저스트보드) are launched at this time. However, the operating budget has a gain in 2022 as well, but still in the deficit overall.

In June 6, 2022, the incident occurred when the user got banned in zero tolerance, who violate the terms and conditions. Some contributors criticize the guideline rule is unfair, and prepare the boycott for "growing in a positive way". But later, he quit the boycott and takes a stand, it says "Stay here who wants to stay, or leave it who wants to leave". After that, they leave the JWIKI and establish a new worldbuilding wiki called Evewiki (이브위키). The administrators also made a statement, and they announced to revise the guideline to reflect the user's opinion. The revised guideline takes effect in June 19.

In August 21, 2022, the official community of KakaoTalk has shut down, and moving to Discord for preventing disputes, efficient activity, and focus on one community platform.

Content

Basically, JWIKI is focused on worldbuilding, which has acted as creation or sharing about non-being contents unlike any wiki, and is close to their imagination and creativity. Therefore, JWIKI does not demand base data (Except the 'practical use' pages, it is based on the facts.) in creation, and they recognize the copyright holder's rights. However, the users can take responsibility for copyright infringement about contributions.

The contents vary widely regardless of genres within the realm of creation. Once alternate history was most popular in JWIKI, later it expand into fictional state (가상국가), fantasy, science fiction, apocalypse (with post-apocalyptic genre), game modification (such as Paradox Interactive games) and web novel.

The wikitext is different from Namuwiki by using MediaWiki, so the trouble was reported that it is difficult to adapt when users, who was active in Namuwiki in the past. In fact, JWIKI adopts Namumark (Orimark) for support Namu-style wikitext, as a result, it was stopped by a vote due to a serious flaw such as an HTML tag not being recognized and an article failing to read if had 200,000 bytes. Actually, it is true that users feel difficult in the early part of the edit, particularly easy tags or table edits are not intuitive.

Since 2020, the users are embodying most of Namuwiki template with MediaWiki wikitext and gradually being resolved with the help of a self-sustaining group. Also, they do projects as materialize functions or the guides as pure creations.

JWIKI is also have no restriction on the description method, so the rollback or micromanagement (gonarijil in other words) itself is impossible, as in places like Wikipedia and Namuwiki. Commonly, the reason is what user wants to post could be canon, a creation for specific events, or a novel. Therefore it's someone else's creation in the first place. Because of this, there's no internet argument or conflict about the political tendency in canon. But, it cannot be said that there is no such thing as the case of 8th election and a political conflict between the users who have centre and left-wing. Apart from this, political content is rampant due to various creations sets, it is strictly distinguished from politicking. In addition, JWIKI strict about this.

JWIKI has exist 1,200 contributors (Doesn't mean contributors in action) in present day, and be in operation sincere and systematic. the administrators often identifies and responds to emergencies within 10 minutes, actually there is a case of dealing with vandalism quickly. Also, Justboard, which was made at a cost was also made up of their activities. Although their growth direction is unpredictable because 'creation wiki' is minor realm, sincere management will be a positive factor for existence.

And the relationship between users and administrators is very positive among Korean language wiki. Few users are dissatisfied with the operation, and rather positive. (But there is a fact that most people who have left JWIKI are dissatisfied with this) However, they are adding finances to those who are financially-affordable because they ran the wiki with their own money. Currently, their financial funds are available is open to the public, but it is regrettable that the deficit is due to the long years.
